Corrections to the following blog

Well in order to discover why those trees were buried I first had to figure out where we were. I was told on the Mat-Su river...nope. We were on the Kinik Glacier retreat. So of course we were following the Kinik river to it's head waters. Well now this story is pretty intense... It seems that the Kinik River is filled from many smaller rivers and glacier drain offs, but the majority of its waters come from Lake George...now Lake George has an interesting tale with many native stories behind it...I found several sites discussing the phenomenon, I will let you research this if your interested...the gist of it is...Up until 1966 the Knik Glacier dammed up the mouth of Lake George. This caused water to build up and fill the lake to flood stages. As the summer warmed up the warm waters and rocks would burrow a hole through the ice and cause a major flood. Now this process is often seen on volcanoes when they blow or quake and "break or melt" the glacier system on them, but only a few lakes like this are formed and work their disasters annually. Now this was not a good thing for the natives of the area that occupied this valley in the 1900's yes they are probably buried under the rubble of many years of lake water floods. Since the village was wiped out no one has annually inhabited the area...you would be an idiot. So Erica our land slide direction was off. As you can see from the map the lake would have sent water torrenting through that valley...shoving rock and debris up against the base of that ridge. (Located right about where the "ve" is in "River". So the mystery is solved and the lake has been steadily draining for years so we do not need to worry about a flash flood wiping us out.
