Stay at home Parents Annual salary!!!

Well hell I am worth more than my husband...(okay so he already knows that) but to all them out there that believe a "House Spouse" is the "easy way" the Anchorage Daily News says differently today. My sister says I should learn how to "insert links". That is too much for my "non-tinkering" brain...I would rather be out mowing the lawn or using the skill saw. So if she would like she may insert the proper link here...(Anchorage Daily News Friday April 21, 2006; "F section/Money headline article)
I will not summerize the article in words but here is the break down of the monies I am saving my household by staying at home and raising my own children.....
Annual Salaries of work preformed...(if outside the home)

Day Care/pre-school teacher.....$26,891
Van Driver.....................................$30,762 (why does this job make more than a teacher?)
Houskeeper....................................$18,750
Cook.................................................$31,099
CEO...................................................$612,623
Nurse...............................................$56,113
General Maintance worker...........$29,656
________________________________________________________________
Parents Base Pay............................$43,461
Overtime pay (60 hours)...............88,010

Stay-at-home parent's annual salary.........$131,471

I have not figured out the math...again to much for my brain right now...I am assuming they took the average of the numbers from above to come up with "Parent Base Pay". If so they forgot a few "jobs".....Psychologist, dental hygenist, play therapist, occupational therapist, lawyer and judge (especially with multiple children), hair dresser, yard maintance worker, entertainer...I am sure I could come up with many more...but no one would be able to afford to pay us except maybe that dude from exon that makes 144 thousand a day!!!! I think he was a CEO (quite overpaid mind you......So in conclusion...they have finally figured out the "net worth" of a "house spouse"....I wonder where the government will take this little bit of information.....you can bet it will NOT benifit us.........my reality

I would agree, "we have a problem here", for some reason you have a big black hole in cyberspace. May be it is the twilight zone! For you "stay at home" moms who has the toughest job of anyone, I do agree that you are underpaid and not always fully appreciated! But, I have good news for you. I just found out, that if you are a "stay at home" mom nad have not worked enough to meet the requiremtns for Social Security when you are of that age. At 65 if your spouse is of social security age, you can also draw 50% of the amount of social security that he / she is entitled. You can draw this at age 62, however, it will be less for exercising "early retirement". So the concept is to keep the spouse working! I realize that 62 or 65 seems so far away to you young'ens but it gets here a little earlier than you expect. Come November, I will be submitting my paperwork, I am going to "cash in" as much as I can! It is great being a war baby or commonly referred to as a "baby boomer", we get to collect all the money before all of the rest of you can retire - we appreciate it and thank you for continuing to work in order to support us!

I wonder if the IRS would let us clain a loss? I meean if we got a bussiness license and sent bills to our husbands... could we write it of as a loss? or uncolectable revenue?

I hear in Brittan ... the wives actually charge thier husbands... and make them pay into retirement.

According to IRS regulations it is dependent upon what you are charging uyour husband for. Some activities that you would most likely charge for are classified as illegal, unless you live within the state of Nevada. I really think we should eliminate social security, (after I have collected my share)and revert back to the the method of retirement income that the ancient nomadic tribes practiced. When the parents become "senior" each of their off spring that they raised would contribute 20% of their income to the parents rertirement account. In addition each grandchild also contrtributed 10% of their income on the 16th season of their birth. Sounds like a grteat method to me!
