Now I am thinking...
Now that I have been to taste a sample of the history of our country I got a plan...Crystal needs family near by...lets move in with her and take an extended vacation...in the six months till summer starts the kids would get an even better education by actually travelling and seeing the places they will or have learned in the history books...I have discovered enough "day trips" with in just an hours drive from Josh's house to keep us all busy for a month at least....The history and makings of the US Navy are in a little town called Sacketts Harbor...just maybe a half hours drive from the kid's house...on the shores of one of the great lakes....also in Sacketts Harbor is the home that John Adams wife Abigail lived in while he was off fighting the War's and running the country... Now Vermont is also just two hours away from their home...a bit longer of a day but still with in a days time to explore...as for lodging... well there is a big open field...complete with horses right next to the buildging they live in...tents would work...but to rent a Motor Home in NY is not nearly what it cost here...so maybe we could make a portable HITW and go find summer till summer... Dad would make a good history teacher and tour guide...we could take turns picking the days lesson...good idea yah?? |

Does John Adams wife, Abigail still live there? I looked at your plan very closely and it sounded like a super idea, then I looked at their annual weather. They get more snow and cold weather than we do in Alaska. I don't think my snow plow will hold up to that long of a trip, let alone pass inspection through customs!
well just arent you a reality checker...hmmm...let me think on this...maybe we can rotate the globe...hehe...guess it is not always 60 there?
You are right, Sackets Village was a major Navy base in the Battle of 1812 and eventually the Army made an outpost at this location. Several naval vessels were stationed here but it was also a Navy ship building port, but no aircraft carriers were built as the airplane had not yet been invented. However, prior to being moved to Annapolis, Maryland what would pass as a Navy Academy started in Sackets Village.
